Scientific research launched: cocoa + sapropel

Grand Polaris Ghana Ltd. received the first trial batch of a sapropel-based soil modifier from Lithuanian technology start-up Desert Soil Agrotech Ltd.

The modifier was transferred to the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana for testing its effectiveness in growing cocoa seedlings. If the results are positive, the trials are planned to expand to Ghana's savannah regions.

Memoranda of Understanding with universities are also being prepared to support further cooperation and research.

Creating the opportunity for year-round harvests in the savannah

Grand Polaris Ghana Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Desert Soil Agrotech Ltd. to cooperate on an application to the World Food Programme Innovation Accelerator.

The proposed project aims to verify and apply a technology for transforming non-productive soil into fertile soil using sapropel and locally available cereal straw under real conditions in Ghana's savanna zone.

The partners intend to test the “SaproStraw Savannah” concept and prepare recommendations for its future deployment and scaling across Africa.

Support from Lithuania for thriving cocoa trees

Grand Polaris Ghana Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Desert Soil Agrotech Ltd., a Lithuanian technology start-up, to cooperate in applying sapropel-based soil modification technology to improve growing conditions for cocoa trees in Ghana.

Sapropel is an organic-mineral sediment formed in freshwater lakes over thousands of years. The technology is intended to improve unproductive soil and create better conditions for crop cultivation.

The partners expect the soil modifier to support future cocoa cultivation trials in Ghana's savannah regions.
